about - me

I have worked in entertainment since 1977. I have extensive experience in the area of female impersonation, and I have performed in most of the major Fun Pubs in the North of England from their creation in 1982, until there demise in 1991. Indeed, I opened many of these venues.
I also have worked in cabaret shows, in Spain for a number of years, and I do speak fairly fluent Spanish.
I attended Drama school, in Liverpool, and trained in theatre studies with and emphasis in performance. I do class myself as an actor, who happens to have a background in cabaret; and therefore the female character I portray is a well rounded individual stock character with a background, a family history, and an identity.

In 1998, I was performing in Manchester’s Gay Village. Whilst there, I worked in most of the main venues. I opened both the Hollywood Show bar and the Manhattan Show bar, and was the original D.J. for the first year of trading in these venues.

In March 1999, I was invited to audition for the world famous Funny Girls, in Blackpool. I was offered the position as the Monday night D.J. /Compare, and I was the second D.J./Compare in the main Funny Girls show. I performed on a regular basis, not only as the D.J./Compare, but also in the stage ensemble cabaret shows.

In September of 1999, I was asked to work at the Flying Handbag in Blackpool - which is a Gay Fun Pub that is owned by the same company who own Funny Girls – again as compare/DJ.
Working in a seaside resort enabled me to reach a wider audience from all over the UK. This in turn, helped to establish me as a name on the UK gay scene.

Also, in 1999, I was asked to compare a two-hour set, on the main stage at the Manchester Mardi Gras, on the Bank holiday Saturday afternoon. I played to approximately 3000 people. I was also asked to perform at the Lavender Ball, at the same event. I performed and this event the following year.

In 2001, I had a web site designed and created for my stage character; it has had over 17,000 hits, to date.

In 2002, I was seen as a big enough name to take part in the Weakest Link Drag queen special. And although I was the ‘stand-by’, I was flattered to be asked to take part in this show.

In 2003, I was asked to write a monthly column, for the Manchester based magazine, Out Northwest. This column is based on my stage character, and is in the same vain as my stage performance.

In 2004, I was invited to compare again, at the Manchester Mardi Gras, (now called Pride). I compared for the whole of Bank holiday Monday, from 2:00 pm until 8:00pm. I played to over 4000 people.
In October 2004, I left my residences in Blackpool, to return to the cabaret circuit. I continue to perform in both Gay and Straight venues throughout the north of England.

In March 2005, I was cast as the character Lola Cabana – a featured speaking role – in Yorkshire TV’s Emmerdale.
I also was asked to compare again at the 2005 Manchester gay Pride.

I also work further a field in my own cabaret show, which I find is being booked with great regularity.

In August 2005 I was offered a week-end residency in a cabaret venue in the Isle of Man. I start in mid Sept 2005 and all travelling expenses and arrangements have been made by the club.
I have also been offered my own radio show on Energy FM (98.4FM), which is the Isle of Man’s local radio station. I intend to perform this show in the same way as my stage performance and in costume.

Recently, I have been researching and compiling information on the history of the Fun Pub in the North of England and the comparison to the evolution of the Victorian/Edwardian music hall. I hope to use this for a master’s degree in the near future and eventually I hope to publish my findings in a book format.

In 2007 I commenced study at Masters Degree level in contemporary theatre practice at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, (LIPA).
In 2008 successfully completed the first year on the MA and I started the second year in September 2008. In 2009 I completed the secondd year on the Masters Degree course; I hope to graduate in 2010.
I have also successfully completed the first year on the Cert ed, teacher training course.
